Questions about John Brooks’ future at Hertha Berlin have been put to rest, as he is staying put for the foreseeable future.
Hertha Berlin announced on Saturday that Brooks has signed a contract extension through the 2018-19 season. The German Bundesliga club had publicly expressed its desire to sign the 23-year-old centerback to a new deal in recent weeks and months, but his apparent reluctance to do so led to questions and rumors about whether he would be sold this winter.
Brooks, however, has decided to continue to represent his hometown team, which is the only side he has played for in his career.
“Everyone knows that Hertha my club, Berlin is my home,” said Brooks via Hertha Berlin’s Twitter account.
Apart from signing a new deal, the U.S. Men’s National Team centerback was in action with Hertha Berlin on Saturday. He played from whistle to whistle, as the club surrendered two late goals to Claudio Pizarro and settled for a disappointing 3-3 draw with relegation-threatened Werder Bremen.
This season, Brooks has made nine starts in 12 appearances in league play. He has scored one goal, and helped Hertha Berlin jump into third place – which holds a UEFA Champions League spot – in the Bundesliga standings.
What do you think of Brooks re-signing with Hertha Berlin? Is it a good move for him? Still see him moving on to a bigger club in the near future?
